Last Man Stands: Champions 2020

Rainhill are Warrington and District LMS champions

22nd September 2020

Rainhill CC have sealed the Warrington and District Last Man Stands title for the 2020 season.

Rainhill won their first four fixtures in convincing style and, despite losing their final game, deservedly clinched the title and will go on to represent the league in the national finals.

This is a fantastic achievement for an U18 team competing against some very good ‘adult’ players and teams. The majority of the squad have played together through the junior teams starting at U9 and now play across the senior teams - a testament to the success of the club's youth section. Congratulations to all those who have played this year - Biley Banerjee, Joe Byrne, Jake Donoghue, Jack Ellis, Jack Lowrie, David Pennington, Stephen Pennington, Ethan Powell, Oliver Powell, Paul Valentine and Sam Williamson.

Rainhill LMS will play off against the winners of the Liverpool competition next Sunday (27th September) at Liverpool CC. The winning team will then face the winners from Manchester 2nd district (tbc) in the final 32 of the national knockout competition in April 2021. The winners of the national competition represent England in the World Championships.

Many thanks to Martin Lowrie for the report and photograph
