Rainhill: 133-8 (David Pennington 60, Jack Ellis 54, Abdurrahman Omarzai 4-20) South Liverpool: 137-3 (Niroshana Amaratunga 42, Dhimal Lokuruge 40*, Sam Williamson 3-40)
South Liverpool won by 7 wickets
Rainhill were beaten by seven wickets in their encounter with group leaders South Liverpool, in spite of half centuries from openers David Pennington and Jack Ellis.
Having won the toss and deciding to bat, Pennington and Ellis made a positive start and weathered to storm against some excellent South Liverpool bowling to create a useful partnership. The duo's resistance frustrated the home side, who were unable to make the breakthrough until Pennington was bowled by Abdurrahman Omarzai for 60. Pennington and Ellis had shared a partnership of 108 - what was even more impressive is that Pennington's half-century was his second of the weekend.
Unfortunately Rainhill were unable to build this start and a succession of wickets meant that they reached a modest total of 133-8 from the allotted 40 overs. The impressive Ellis was out for 54 - his wicket was also taken by Omarzai who not only finished up with four wickets but was instrumental in the run out of Jake Donoghue.
South Liverpool lost opener Azam Ahamed Udayar, who was bowled by Sam Williamson for 12, but they raced to their target of 137 in a mere 19.4 overs. Williamson's bowling earned him three wickets but otherwise South Liverpool were in complete control as Niroshana Amaratunga (42) and Dhimal Lokuruge (40 not out) saw their team to victory.
Rainhill now sit in third place in SkyBlue Group, three points behind Northern but with a game in hand.
