Super 8s in 40-run defeat to Formby

Rainhill's Super 8s women's softball team played their first home match of 2022 yesterday evening - and, in spite of a 40-run loss to Formby, produced a positive performance.

With several new faces in the team, Rainhill fielded first and some good bowling from Julie, Anna, Cassie and Lucy helped restrict the flow of runs. However, the third Formby pair played aggressively and consistently found gaps on the leg side, dispatching some quality bowling from Vicky and Jayne to the boundary. Sue made a brilliant stumping, but Rainhill didn't take the wickets their bowling deserved. What would have been a great catch from Julie was frustratingly ruled out for a no-ball.

Rainhill batted positively although they lost a couple of wickets. Each batting pair played positively and looked to score quickly, but Rainhill were unable to match Formby's run rate. All the same, Rainhill's players made some great shots - especially Sandra and Sue - and a 40-run defeat was far from a bad outcome against a very capable Formby side. Women's cricket at Rainhill in is a very good place and surely 2022 will be a season in which further progress is made.
