Scorecard

Rainhill's Sunday XI played their penultimate match of the season at Old Parkonians, putting in another spirited performance against a talented side.

Old Parkonians won the toss and elected to bat. They lost opener Tim Berkson for 5 when he was bowled by Mark Ellis, but Chris Beckett (47) and Nathan Bradshaw (55 not out) came together and not only shared a partnership of over 100 but scored quickly. Beckett was eventually out lbw to Vinny Varghese just three runs short of his half-century.

Mark Rayner (26) and Shahid Hannan (14 not out) also made strong contributions for the home side, but Rainhill's bowlers stuck to their task with Ned Brougham (pictured) being rewarded for his efforts with personal best figures of 4-19. Old Parkonians reached 181-7 from their allotted 35 overs, meaning Rainhill were chasing 182 at a rate of 5.2 per over.

Rainhill started well, and openers Tony Wright and Neil Robinson forged a promising partnership. Unfortunately, Wright fell for 25 when he was deceived by a delivery from Ben Thomas. Robinson went on to hit a creditable 61, ably supported by Paul Millar (16) and Mark Ellis (21) but ultimately the target proved beyond Rainhill who finished on 143.

The final match of the season will be played at Wistaston on Sunday 27th September.
